The Tryout Process

At the beginning of the try-out sessions, the Club will hold an orientation session for those parents who are not familiar with the Club or with select soccer. The tryout sessions will be divided by age group, and will consist of drills, exercises and scrimmages designed to allow the Placement Committee to evaluate the skill, desire, attitude and potential of each player. As teams get older and more established, individual team try-out procedures may vary according to the needs of the team. Final player selections are made without regard to race, religion, creed, color, national or ethnic origin. Selection to a team one year does not guarantee that player a place on the team the following year.  Any player residing in Malden, MA must also play for the Malden Town Travel Team in addition to the Malden YSA Cosmos.  Tryout’s will typically occur in the month of June each year.

Cosmos Schedule

Each year is different from the previous, but a typical annual calendar might look like that shown following:

• July Deadline for Fall Registration, Return of Commitment Letters, and Fall Fees

• Mid-August Fall Practice Begins

• September Fall Season Begins

• A Fall tournament will be played on Labor Day or Columbus Day Weekend

• November – March – Futsal Season

• January Deadline for Spring Season Registration

• Early March Spring Practice Begins

• Early April Spring Season Opens

• Late June State Cup Tournament

• Late- June Cosmos team tryouts
